A Glomus Tympanicum, is a paraganglioma of the middle ear cavity.  It is a relatively rare, highly vascular tumor.  The tumor is locally invasive but can rarely metastasize (spread by the blood stream or lymphatic system).  It can also be multi-focal with separate tumors developing in other parts of the body.
